Man Loses Β£150,000 in Bitcoin Romance Scam

The man in his 30s from Weston-super-Mare was struggling with a break-up, when he found himself looking for companionship online.

He then met a woman called Jia online who portrayed herself as a successful investor with inside knowledge

Jia then directed the man into investing in an online trading platform and was instructed by Jia to download the app to his phone.

Jia would encourage Tom to keep making investments which he did. In time his account balance went to zero.

he invested again in a state of desperation but again was wiped out

Once there was no money remaining, Jia then refused to help saying she had to fly to Australia to tend to her sick aunt. In the blink of eye, everything was gone and so was Jia.

BitClub’s $722M Bitcoin Mining Ponzi Scheme

Born Jobadiah Sinclair Weeks from Colorado is a bitcoin scammer who has pleaded guilty to tax evasion and conspiracy to sell unregistered securities. This is one of the largest cryptocurrency frauds ever devised, one that scammed tens of thousands of small investors out of more than $720 million.

The BitClub Network promised high returns to customers who purchased shares in a cryptocurrency “mining pool.” The money was supposed to go toward buying and operating stacks of high-speed computing equipment, to be used in carving out new blocks of transactions in the Bitcoin blockchain.

The BitClub scammers made exaggerated claims about mining capability they didn’t have, paid out inflated earnings to early investors in order to rope in more suckers, and took huge rake-offs for themselves, much of it in the form of commissions from a multi-level marketing (MLM) setup that paid huge bonuses for recruiting new members.

The Man loses $45,000 in a Bitcoin Scam

The man was told to withdraw the money, totaling $45,000, and place it in a Bitcoin account.

When the scam artist sent the man a barcode, he used his phone to scan the barcode in the Bitcoin account.

Sometime later, the con artist called again, telling the man he was about to put the money back into his bank account, but wanted him to send an additional $16,000 to pay the Georgia taxes

At this point, police said the man realized he had been scammed.

28-Year-Old Man Arrested for US$650,000 Bitcoin Fraud 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Police have arrested 28-year-old, Sirichai Nimprem arrested after scamming people to invest in Bitcoin and later fleeing with over US$650,000 (22 Million Baht).

Using Facebook, Sirichai Nimprem lured people into investing in Bitcoin with promises of returns of up to 30%. The high return attracted a large number of investors.

In the early stages, the suspect frequently posted photos showing money transfers, in order to convince people that they would receive large dividends from Bitcoin. Later, he claimed that there were problems with money transfers and this caused payouts to be delayed.

He then shut down his Facebook account and was no longer able to be contacted by any of the Bitcoin investors.

Investors reported losses totaling approximately US$668,000 (22 Million Baht) when filing complaints at Phuket police stations.

Canadian Man Loses $141,000 in Bitcoin SCAM 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Aylmer police are investigating a scam after a 60-year-old man was defrauded of $141,000.

The man set up an account through an SPX Markets investment company in early 2021 and invested the six-figure sum over the course of seven months into Bitcoin.

β€œTwo male suspects continued to pressure the victim into investing more money at which point he became suspicious of the investment,” police said.

The man reported the incident to police last Tuesday after learning the investment was a scam.

Police have since traced the address used for the initial investment to Europe.

Amazon Fake Crypto Token Scam 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Users were asked to then pay for the pre-sale tokens with their own cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). As the tokens are non-existent, these funds then ended up in the wallets of attackers.

Another lure is also presented – a fake referral program that promises rewards if users refer friends and family. No rewards were given.

In total, most of the visitors to the fake token landing pages were using mobile devices (98%). The distribution of mobile operating systems in use is fairly even but leans toward Android handsets (56%), followed by Apple iOS (42%).

The majority of victims are located in North America, South America, and Asia.
